Tears In A Week Of Results

Firsts vs Bellville @ home

In the end INDY OIL PCC had  a disappointing loss to Bellville CC after ending the first day of the match on top with all the momentum in our favour.
The only performer to ‘right home about’ on day two for PCC  was Colin Sher who played a good innings of 46 in an attempt to chase the total of 213 set for victory.
Early Bellville added 243 runs to the overnight score for the loss of only 3 further wickets in their innings. Batsman 5 (110) and batsman 6 (70*) made the PCC pay after a few chances went a begging in the morning session.

PCC ended up losing the game by some 80 runs. Let’s turn things around in the next game!

Seconds vs Bellville away

We lost. Bad battling performance in both innings was our downfall. Can’t come back when you are 100+ runs behind in the 1st innings.

Thirds vs Tygerberg away

Resuming with an 8 run lead we arrived to a less lively Cape Doctor but encountered a wicket that was more difficult to score runs on than the previous week. We got off to a fairly solid start but it was once again the middle order who placed us in a commanding position with solid contributions from the evergreen Slats 31, Silver Fox Flitton 32, Lups 34 and a quick fire 40 from Wardy. We declared after batting for 40 overs setting Tygerberg a realistic target of 195 in approx 48 overs

A superb opening spell from Clarkie and Wardy (along with some quality fielding from the Blind Russian) had Tygrberg in deep kak at 15/5! They then proceeded to splutter to 48/7 after 26 overs. What happened after that (and don’t assume sour grapes) was a blatant case of player umpire cheating (3 plumb lbws not given) and a batter not walking! The now Tygerberg Cheetahs ended on 101/7 at the end of the days play. The draw will in all likelihood end our league title defence hopes but the lads must be complemented on their quality cricket and we’ll be looking to smash them in a Super Bowl Sunday this weekend.
Clarkie returned with superb figures of 11 overs, 6 maidens 2/11 and was well backed up by the Russian with figures of 6 overs 2/17

  1. Actually, the only influence he had was not being at work and therefore, handing over the work.
